How to get people like you.
I was having dinner with a friend some time ago at a hotel restaurant in Denver Co. When we first sat down we waited for some time before our waitress came over to take our orders. We had seen her pass us by, and she had seen us sitting there for at least 10 minutes before she found the time to come to our table. The place was not busy at all, so I was mildly annoyed by the time she made her way to our table. When she got there, you could tell that she was not having a very good day. In fact you could say that she was annoyed that she had to deal with another customer. Before I even had a chance to say anything, my friend asked her in a very polite tone of voice “how is your day going?” She instantly got a smile on her face and said “thanks for asking, but I have had better days.” After talking with her for a few minutes, and hearing her story we learned that she had worked at the same hotel for over 20 years.
