When I think if affirmations I immediately think of an old Saturday Night Live Skit called “Daily Affirmations with Stuart Smalley”.  It was a reoccurring skit where Al Franken, who later became a US Senator for the state of Minnesota, played a neurotic character that was obsessed with self help and 12 step programs.  Stuart would always start out his fictional show by staring into a mirror an affirming that he is going to have a great show.  He would also end each show with his signature affirmation that he would read while looking into his mirror, “I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me”. One of the greatest skits was when Michael Jordan was a guest on his show and Stewart proceeded to “help” Michael become a better basketball player.  So that was my first insight to what affirmations where all about.  Read the rest of this entry
